Welcome to Sapapali'i!
On behalf of our families
and Sapapalii village council, it is with our utmost pleasure and
gratitude that we welcome you to our humble home on the Internet with
open arms. |

Sapapali'i Village,
Savaii
Samoa.
|
The Minister
of Sapapali'i and his family also extends his warm greetings to all of
our visitors. As proud citizens of Sapapali'i, we strive diligently to
maintain the beauty and integrity of the Fa'a Samoa in these
contemporary times. Proudly, we rise to the challenge of safeguarding our
established bastions of strengths - our families and village. |
|
In turn, we enthuastically invite our relatives and the progenies of
Sapapali'i
worldwide to take time to visit your ancestral home village tucked away
in this corner of our beautiful island of Samoa.

We also respectfully tender
an open invitation to our friends of diverse cultures and walks of life
to visit us here for a beautiful cultural exchange between our Fa'a
Samoa and your native societies. |
The renowned Malietoa Vai'inupo-Tavita lived here in Sapapali'i from the
late 1700s through 1842. He was the first Samoan to receive the
Christian gospel from the principal white missionary to land on Samoa's
shores, the eminent Reverend John Williams of the London Missionary
Society in 1830. This epic meeting took place on the historical site,
"Mataniu Feagai ma Le Ata". (The namesake of the land is often noted in
oratorical welcome speeches by Samoan orators.) When Samoan talking
chiefs refer to the "Taeao Fou", they are respectfully giving homage to
the peaceful advent of Christianity onto Samoa's shores, literally
meaning "The New Dawn." As this auspicious occasion happened here, the
descendents of the village have great reason to be very proud of their
rich heritage as the widespread modern-day Christianity in the Samoan
islands owe its roots to this monumental accord forged between these two
paramount men in 1830 Sapapalii.

EFKS Sapapali'i
Church
|
Presently, the village is rebuilding its EFKS church, which is nearly
100 years old. Built in 1905, the chapel has long lost its stately
grandeur due to annual storms to include hurricanes that have hit Samoa
sporadically over the last 100 years.
|
|
In recent
times, Hurricane Heta has seriously damaged and compromised the safety
of the chapel's infrastructure. The conservative estimate for repair and
renovation currently is 3M Tala ($1.25M USD).

Now, it is with humbled
hearts and wishes to reach out across nations, near and far, to all
descendents of Sapapali'i to join us in our mission, to unite together
and restore Sapapali'i back to its old glory, a befitting splendor
certainly worthy of its resonant history. |
Those of us here in Sapapali'i are overwhelmed with the consequences of
Hurricane Heta, especially with the decimation of our taro and banana
crops. Aside from being our staples, they were our main cash exports. In
fact, we've had to import both crops as we attempt to revive our
plantations here in Sapapali'i.
Therefore, we courteously appeal to our relatives, the many descendents
of Sapapali'i residing abroad, and our wonderful friends like you to
please help us raise these funds.
We alone cannot achieve this without your collective financial help. |

but not least, we truly thank you in advance for your contributions,
great and small.
Our sincerest gratitude and appreciation to all,
